SC.OUT.ED use the Forest School approach to learning in your own setting. Tailored to different age groups and topics, sessions are essentially child-led and give pupils the opportunity to learn key skills and concepts in a practical and meaningful way. Forest School sessions delivered across County Durham.

Approach to learning:

  • Creative activities such as outdoor art & patterns in nature
  • Curriculum specific topics – plants, seasonal changes
  • Developing survival skills – shelter building and cooking on a fire
  • Using our senses to explore the environment
  • Encouraging teamwork & cooperation

Opportunities:

  • Increase self-esteem & self-confidence
  • Improve listening and speaking skills
  • Contribute to the development of language
  • Improve children’s ability to work cooperatively
  • Improve physical and motor skills

Forest School is also a very effective stimulus for learning back in the classroom

What People Say

During a den building activity it was great to see how quieter children showed their capacity for leadership and imagination.  The activities Sam delivered were engaging, challenging and required teamwork plus led to some good writing afterwards.

Nicola Welsh, Middlestone Moor Primary

A very useful CPD that delivered ideas for creative outdoor activities and experiments for science as well as cross curricular links. Thank you for a great day!

Gemma Preece, St Oswald’s

A great hands-on training day – loads of new ideas and I now feel more confident to use the outdoors with children.

Kay Murray, Pelton Community Primary

The children thoroughly enjoyed the session and developed their knowledge about the Stone Age. The day was fantastic. It was delivered very well, the children were engaged all day and they learnt a lot about the topic, as well as developing skills such as team building and problem solving.

Nicola Cooke, St. Anne’s CE Primary

Sam’s approach to our science topic, ‘dissolving’, promoted autonomy and self discovery. The children learnt some theory, put the theory into practise and then explained what had happened – the children loved it! I have learnt that the children need to have time for self discovery in order to better understand science. Sam was extremely organised and it made for a stress free activity day. I’d seriously recommend Sam to other schools, he’s great!
