Duration: Full Day (9am-3pm)

Staff: 1 staff member

Cost: £220
(Based on one class / approx 30 children)

Location: Delivered on site

This programme uses your school grounds, or an area local to your school, to allow pupils to explore and answer questions about plants growing in their habitat.

Children will become familiar with common names of flowers and look at examples of deciduous and evergreen trees. They work scientifically by observing and recording the growth of a variety of plants. Older children set up a comparative test to show that plants need light and water to grow and compare the effect of different factors on plant growth. Learners will explore the life cycle of flowering plants including pollination and seed dispersal.

Activities include:

  • Identifying and naming a variety of common plants, including deciduous and evergreen trees
  • Discover and describe how plants need water, light and warmth to grow and stay healthy
  • Identify the functions of different parts of flowering plants

Studies:

Learners use the local environment to observe how plants grow and observe the growth of a variety of different plants.
They explore the requirements of plants for life and growth and explore pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal.

“Love the trees until their leaves fall off, then encourage them to try again next year” (Sugg)

What People Say

The children thoroughly enjoyed the session and developed their knowledge about the Stone Age. The day was fantastic. It was delivered very well, the children were engaged all day and they learnt a lot about the topic, as well as developing skills such as team building and problem solving.

Nicola Cooke, St. Anne’s CE Primary

This was the most enjoyable training course I’ve been on in some time! The course leaders were really helpful and knowledgeable. I feel inspired to motivate the children and to start some growing activities! Thank you so much.

Louise Gardner, St Mary’s RCVA Primary

Over the three sessions, all the children learnt new skills and enjoyed their time outdoors! It gave me increased knowledge and the confidence to plan and to deliver similar activities myself. The original aim, to link to PE and specifically an outdoor and adventurous activity core task, was met – especially on teamworking and cooperation. All the sessions were well planned and organised and they were delivered and managed well. Every activity challenged the children and taught them new skills. It was good to see less confident children have the opportunity to shine too!

Denise Hannon, St Chad’s RCVA Primary

Sam is absolutely fantastic at what he does and we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have him as part of our team! The children adore their time with him and his weekly Forest School sessions are so engaging, even the staff look forward to donning their waterproofs and wellies to join in (muddy puddles and all)! Over the past few years, we have used SC.OUT.ED to deliver sessions, both in and out of school, and the response from children, staff and parents has always been phenomenal…and the children can’t stop talking about their learning with a huge smile (what more could we ask for?!). If you are looking for highly-skilled practitioners to enhance your curriculum offer with exciting & challenging outdoor learning opportunities, look no further than SC.OUT.ED; we wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them!

Lisa Pegman, Deputy Headteacher, Simonside Primary School

We have been working with SC.OUT.ED for two years now. In that time we have had no complaints – Chris has never arrived late and he is always very prepared…I’ve never seen so many items of equipment carried by one person! The children love the sessions; they come running the minute he arrives and always want to help out. Chris has a lovely, nurturing manner with the children and a sunny personality. The whole school is always happy to see him; staff included; there is nothing Chris will not try to complete in a session and there are no children he is not willing to work with. During our sessions Chris works with our whole school from our littlest two year olds to our nurture group who  often have significant SEMH needs. Chris is a member of our school team; he’ll even help out over the dinner-time between his sessions – I am sure no other company would be as helpful.

On a learning note, we have noticed our children have become much more resilient since starting SC.OUT.ED – they do not mind being outside whatever the weather and we see more cooperation and teamwork taking place long after Chris has gone home. On playtimes and lunchtimes we see the children applying their skills by making dens on the field and sharing their resources fairly. We have also analysed our attendance and find that most classes have 100% attendance on the days that SC.OUT.ED are working with them; this has helped our attendance improve over the last two years.

I could not recommend SC.OUT.ED more highly; they are truly a professional company. Communication is always quick and all services are transparent. I can’t wait to work with them again soon.
